The Bureau’s Forest Industry Research Program monitors industry operations in Montana, as well as in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. Our research focuses on the forest industry’s size, diversity, and economic impacts. By tracking timber from the forest to the wholesale market, we provide quantitative evaluations of timber sources and use as raw material, mill production and sales, utilization of mill residuals, employment and earnings, and the industry’s role in regional, state, and local economies. |

We also maintain the Montana Manufacturers Information System. Major cooperators of the Bureau’s Forest Products Industry Research Program include: Interior West Forest Inventory and Analysis Program Pacific Northwest Forest Inventory and Analysis Program Inland Northwest Forest Products Research Consortium |
