Rich Lane, Research Forester

Rich has forestry degrees from Penn State and Virginia Tech. He has over 40 years of forest management and wood procurement experience in the southern and western United States. For most of those years he was involved with or responsible for administration and management of wood supply operations for several large pulp and paper mills, primarily in Montana but also in North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington.

For the last ten years Rich was responsible for all pulp log purchasing activities and fiber supply development challenges for a large stationary pulpwood chipping facility located just east of Missoula. During that period he worked closely with and depended upon more than 160 independent Montana logging contractors in order to be assured of procuring a sustainable and affordable supply of pulp logs.
