Determinants of health status are both individual and system-wide. Individual determinants include: initial health state, endowment, and lifestyle. System-wide determinants include: socioeconomic status, the environment, and the availability of medical care services. The availability of medical care and its costs are particularly critical for access to health care, quality, and outcomes.
