The Bureau’s health care industry research program examines markets, trends, industry structure, costs, and other high visibility topics. Montanans’ health status and its determinants are as important as the state’s economic and social trends. Physical and mental health is as basic to overall well-being as employment, wages, or absence of poverty. Determinants of health status are both individual and system-wide. Individual determinants include: initial health state, endowment, and lifestyle. System-wide determinants include: socioeconomic status, the environment, and the availability of medical care services. The availability of medical care and its costs are particularly critical for access to health care, quality, and outcomes. |
