REGIONAL REPORTS
The Bureau cooperates with the USDA Forest Service’s Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program at the Rocky Mountain Research Station in Ogden, Utah and Pacific Northwest Research Station in Portland, Oregon to develop detailed reports on the operations of the forest products industry for individual states throughout the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Coast regions.
We use the Forest Industries Data Collection System (FIDACS), which is based on a census of the forest industry in each state, to compile data. Data collected include: detailed information on timber use and source, the number and size of mills, types and values of products, employment, capacity, volume of raw material received, by county, species, and ownership, and utilization and marketing of manufacturing residue.
