Eric Simmons Eric Simmons is the newest addition to the Forest Products Industry Research team. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Whitworth University in Spokane. His background in field work with the USDA Forest Service in pre-sale, reforestation, fire suppression and fuels reduction make him a valuable addition to our research survey group. Eric descends from a Montana pioneer family that homesteaded in the Wisdom area in the 1880s. His family has experienced the dynamics of how logging and forestry have influenced the economic growth, public lands use and politics of Montana and how in the last decades those roles have reversed. To Eric, the timber industry and forestry in the American West is not just about competing ideologies it is a part of our cultural heritage, a heritage that will continue whether we are harvesting trees for lumber or harvesting biomass for heat and energy. The future is challenging but our resources of mind and spirit are up to the challenge. |
